Getting Into KL City from main Connections
Another round of tips for any travellers planning to spend their time in KL.
For this post we will be focusing on the means of transportation to KL City. There are a few scenarios for this:
By plane
If you reached by plane, there are 4 ways to get to KL City:
A) Airport Taxi
Only recommended if you arrive at KLIA. On the way out from custom counter to departure hall waiting area, there is an Airport Taxi (Limo) counter. Mention the place you are heading to to the person at the counter and they will give you some fixed price depending on the type of car/distance/zone. You should pay for the voucher and head straight to door 2. There will be a line for Airport Taxis. Cost is about RM60-RM100. For KLIA 2, the taxi can be expensive as they are meter based and operated by local cabs (some may ask for crazy prices if you are taking it late in the night or peak hours). I would personally try to avoid cabs if I arrived at KLIA2.
B) ERL (train)
Go to the train platform by following the signboards. If you are travelling alone, it might be more economical if you take train. But bear in mind, the train will take you on a route that will end at KL Sentral. If you are checking in to a place far from KL Sentral, you will need to figure out a way to then get to your final destination (which will incur additional costs).
If you are in a rush, train is good as it will reach KL Sentral in slightly below 30 minutes. Available both from KLIA and KLIA 2. Cost is about RM50- RM55
C) UBER
If you do not have internet, just connect to the free wifi at the airports. They do work. Then order your UBER car. Will cost about RM80-90 from KLIA or KLIA 2. Good thing about this is, it will take you straight to your destination.
D) Shuttle bus
KLIA - there is a coach which costs around RM10 that will take you to KL Sentral in around 1 hour.
KLIA2 - you can take the sky bus. Not sure of today's price (used to be RM7.50). The skybus will take you to KL Sentral in about 1 hour.
Personal recommendations:
If you reached KLIA, take Airport Taxi. It is the most convenient option. If you are on a budget and wish to take the bus, be sure to check your travelling cost from KL Sentral to the final destination.
If you reached KLIA 2, take Uber for the most convenient solution. Buses will drain your energy a little bit and similarly, you will need to check the cost of getting from KL Sentral to your final destination.
Tips: to access internet in KL, it is quite convenient. For free wifi, use the airport wifi. If it doesnt work, go to MC Donalds. If still doesnt work, go to Starbucks, buy a donut and use the free wifi. Else, if you are staying for quite a bit in Malaysia, you may consider buying a prepaid sim cards and buy data. They are pretty cheap. If you are not sure or you are lost, you can ask anyone at the airport. They will not ask you for any money for the information ;).
Will write more about trains and buses in my next post. Cheers.
